The 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution is a historic milestone of the utmost significance.
Wanting to serve and enhance historical knowledge and memory, Parisian Publications launches the publishing series "Philhellenic Library," which will extend to a sufficient number of volumes and will include valuable testimonies, memoirs, and biographies of notable philhellenes, rare documents, as well as thorough studies regarding their lives and activities.
The book "The Adventures of the Physician Daniel Elster in Greece of '21" by Kostas Papahiliou and Regina Manousaki, the fifth volume of the "Philhellenic Library," is yet another valuable contribution to the related literature.
The extensive introduction, the product of years of detailed research, discussing at length the adventurous life and political career of Daniel Elster, is authored by Kostas Papahiliou.
The second part of the volume translates the pages of Elster's memoirs that refer to the stay and adventures experienced by this multi-talented and restless man in revolutionary Greece.
The German philhellene Daniel Elster arrived in Greece in January 1822, where he served as a physician in the Philhellenic Corps, and after surviving the disastrous Battle of Peta, returned to his homeland after many adventures and made a career in Germany and Switzerland as a renowned musician.
He wrote extensive memoirs with many interesting references to people and events of '21, which are published for the first time in Greek, with rich commentary, numerous illustrations, as well as original archival material.
The publication is greeted by Dr. Theodor Elster, president of the Elster Families Association.
The book was edited by Kostas Papahiliou, director of the "Philhellenic Library."
