Description

“Many argue that the art of acting cannot be framed by rules and that it more so represents an innate talent of certain individuals. "Either you have it or you don’t," we have often heard some say characteristically. But is it really like that in the end?

From antiquity to today, the art of theater has not only survived through the ages but has also evolved and developed, winning the hearts of thousands of artists and audiences around the world, and is now taught at the highest levels.

From the birth of tragedy, ancient and Roman comedy, urban and religious drama, the Elizabethan theater with the works of Shakespeare and Marlowe, to Brecht's epic theater, moral drama, the theater of the absurd, invention, the theater of cruelty, farce, satire, and documentary theater, the art of acting—i.e., the way actors, through rehearsals, embody their roles in front of audiences—constitutes the most important, as universally acknowledged, vital function of the dramatic art. Theater without actors does not exist.

This essay should serve as a starting point for further thought and dialogue among those involved in acting, in the process of shaping a modern method, complete and objective, which will stand by them as a key aid for the enhancement of their artistic efforts and the overall elevation of their art.
