Tourist planning is a complex and rational process that seeks, at various levels of management (national, regional, local), to align multiple developmental goals. Among these are the protection of the natural environment, the development of specialized tourist infrastructure, cultural development, biodiversity, and landscape aesthetics.

The goal is to establish a policy and provide guidelines suitable for the balanced development of tourism. The purpose of this book is to understand the theoretical and empirical framework of the tourist planning process.

A multitude of topics are examined, such as: the delineation of tourist planning as a distinct scientific field, the processes and stages of developing tourist plans, the stakeholders involved and their responsibilities, organization, evaluation methods, forecasting methodologies, and analysis techniques, the institutional and regulatory framework, the financing of tourist plans and programs, and the policies related to tourist planning in Greece.
