Batman: Arkham Origins features an expanded Gotham City and introduces an original story set several years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. Set before the rise of Gotham City's most dangerous criminals and assassins, the game showcases a young, unrefined, and immature Batman facing a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter, setting him on the path to becoming the Dark Knight.

Arkham Origins features a significant story set on Christmas Eve, where Batman is hunted by eight of the most dangerous assassins in the DC Comics universe. Players become the early-career Batman as they encounter many of the characters that will shape his future for the first time.
