Description

Description

The relativistic Quantum Field Theory explored in this book is the foundation for the study of developments in particle physics.

The exposition is brief, as this work is aimed at beginner graduate students or advanced undergraduate students with a basic understanding of Quantum Mechanics, Particle Physics, Group Theory, and Relativity.

The elements of quantum field theories related to each of the interactions that enter the Standard Model and the spontaneous symmetry breaking patterns, namely the classic Higgs phenomenon in the context of scalar electrodynamics and non-abelian symmetries, are examined.

The next major section is the theory of scattering with tree-level examples. This is followed by the quantization of fields through so-called path integrals, basic concepts, and prerequisites for "renormalizability" of theories, as well as the fundamental components of the so-called "renormalization group" and smoothing of a theory.

In addition to perturbative theories, a brief description of quantum theories on a spacetime lattice is provided. Advanced topics follow, such as chiral anomalies, critical exponents, the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism, and a dynamic interpretation of the phenomenon of symmetry breaking.

Finally, conformal field theories are briefly described, along with the formalism of field theories at finite temperature and real time.
