The concept of reflection has recently been addressed as a fundamental component of teachers' professional development. The aim of reflection is to discover the informal personal theory that guides each teacher's instructional decisions and choices, and to strive for its development or reformulation.
Reflective sensitivity and the methods by which one seeks the underlying assumptions that guide their actions contribute to the formation of an "open" professional identity, which prioritizes questioning over certainties.
This book attempts to explore aspects of the –under construction– professional identity of trainee teachers through their reflective processes, within the context of Teaching Practice. It theoretically discusses concepts such as beliefs and practical knowledge of teachers and critically examines theoretical approaches to reflection, suggesting different pathways and methods for achieving it.
Finally, the book presents and analyzes a number of reflective records from trainee teachers that illuminate the theoretical discourse and exemplify reflection as a process of personal meaning-making in educational work.
