Description

Polaroids hold a special place in the hearts of many photography enthusiasts who remember a time when “instant photography” meant unique prints that developed within minutes of pressing the shutter. Having once been a crucial tool for photographers to test their shots before shifting to film, it has now given way to digital photography. Fortunately, the legendary photographer Helmut Newton preserved his test Polaroids, giving us a rare opportunity to see the trials from some of his greatest works over the decades, including many from the TASCHEN SUMO titles, A Gun for Hire, and Work. Selected by his widow, June Newton, from more than 300 photographs showcased at the “Helmut Newton Polaroids” exhibition at the Museum of Photography in Berlin in 2011, this collection captures the magic of Helmut Newton’s photographic shots as only Polaroids can.
