The Star Anise, also known as Chinese Anise or Illicium, scientific name Illicium verum, belongs to the Illiciaceae family and is the fruit of an evergreen aromatic tree native to Southwestern China and Vietnam. This spice has a history in Europe dating back to 1578 and is still cultivated mainly in Asia, such as in Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, and Japan.
