The Cistus, also known as Labdanum (Cistus creticus - Rockrose), is a wild, low-growing, shrubby plant found in many parts of Greece, mainly in Crete and Cyprus.
The leaves and stems of the plant secrete a resinous substance known as labdanum. According to modern herbalists, Cistus has:
- Anti-inflammatory properties
- Anti-diarrheal properties
- Antispasmodic properties
- Expectorant properties
- Decongestant properties
Additionally, it has soothing properties and is used for issues such as insomnia, diarrhea, and toothache. It is suggested to prepare it as follows: Add 1 tablespoon of Cistus to a cup of boiling water and let it steep covered for 15 minutes. Strain and consume one cup in the morning and another in the evening.
