The Latin name of the herb is Ceterach officinarum D.C. (Common Ceterach). Its synonym is Asplenium ceterah (L). It grows in Europe (in Central Europe, it is a protected plant), throughout southwestern Asia, in the Himalayas, and in the drier parts of the North, the East, and South Africa. In our country, it is known by the common names scorpidi, asplenium, scorpidochorto, skropidi, skropidochorto, scorpidatsi, scopirotiri, gold grass, wild spartium.
It acts as a calming, diuretic, expectorant, and sudorific. It is used for bladder ailments, urinary tract infections, and kidney issues. It is very good for the removal of stones from the kidneys. Generally, it acts against diarrhea and is therapeutic for the spleen, chest diseases, and cough. It also has antihelminthic properties (for intestinal worms).
It is prepared as an infusion. We boil 6 grams in 1.5 cups of water for 5-10 minutes. One dose = once a day. If desired, we can sweeten it with mint or sweet anise. The herbs should be treated as medicines. It is advisable to consult a doctor before taking them.
