Sage, or garden sage (Salvia officinalis), belongs to the genus of flowering plants called Salvia. In English, it is commonly known as sage, garden sage, or common sage.
The plant has a strong aromatic scent and is cultivated for its medicinal properties, used as a decoction and as a seasoning. The leaves have antiseptic, expectorant, and antispasmodic properties.
The plant has stomachic, tonic, and cardiotonic properties and is also used for neuralgias. Sage is utilized therapeutically in the form of a decoction internally as an antiperspirant, particularly against night sweats in tuberculosis patients and those suffering from nervous exhaustion.
Herbs are, and should be treated as, medicines. We recommend always consulting your doctor before taking them.
