It was our first outing after a long time. Or at least, our first carefree outing after a long time. The evening was summery, even though it wasn’t even mid-May yet. We had never been to this restaurant before, but I had promised myself, when it opened about a year earlier, that someday I would bring her here. When everything would finally be alright, when it would all be over. We were sitting at a table right on the rock where the waves broke, and the sea breeze, combined with the scent of jasmine and night-blooming flowers, would have intoxicated me, if she hadn’t been sitting across from me. She, who had always enchanted all my senses, who monopolized everything with just one glance, who captivated both my soul and my mind just by being there, just by existing. I loved this “prison”; I wanted to remain inside it forever, after all, I knew every inch of it inside out.
SCRIPTA MANENT. THE WRITTEN WORD ENDURES...
ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS CAREFULLY PRESERVED. WHERE THE HEART OF EVERYTHING... BEATS. OR RATHER WHERE THERE IS NOTHING LEFT. NOTHING THAT CAN BE FELT. NOTHING THAT CAN REMIND. NOTHING THAT CAN TESTIFY...
…HOW LITERATURE CAN PROVE TO BE VERY FRIGHTENING. EVEN DEADLY...
: the most important – literally and symbolically – human organ. A symbol of love, affection, tenderness. It expresses desire, emotion, excitement. It defines life.
: a symbol of betrayal, deceit, abandonment. It expresses loneliness, sorrow, frustration. It defines death.
But what can a heart that is no longer in its place symbolize? Without ever having stopped beating? Nora Dendrinou and Nikolas Panagiotidis are once again called to dive into dark and dangerous worlds. They plunge where the instinct for survival breeds murder. Where death means life. Where love turns into terror and affection becomes a prison. Where classical literature meets... absurd literature.
Because sometimes monsters do not leap from the pages of books. The monsters are... the pages of the books.
