Description

Description

The NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena is a premium prime telephoto lens in Nikon’s S-Line range for the Z system. Designed to deliver perfectly round bokeh from edge to edge, outstanding peripheral brightness and instant autofocus. With advanced optical construction, durable metal build quality and comprehensive weather sealing, it is the ultimate choice for portraits, street photography and demanding video productions.

Flawless and Perfectly Circular Bokeh

The Plena creates perfectly round bokeh circles, even at its maximum aperture of f/1.8, eliminating effects such as onion rings and cat-eye shapes. Thanks to its rounded 11-blade diaphragm and large Z mount, backgrounds are rendered with smooth gradation and natural depth, retaining their circular shape even in the farthest corners of the frame.

Superior Optical Design & Clarity

The complex optical construction consists of 16 elements in 14 groups, including special high-dispersion SR glass and an aspherical element. These technologies effectively reduce chromatic aberration, field curvature, and spherical aberration. Even with the aperture wide open, they ensure exceptional sharpness and high contrast across the entire sensor.

Advanced Meso Amorphous & ARNEO Coatings

The lens features the advanced Meso Amorphous anti-reflective coating combined with the ARNEO coating. Together, they eliminate ghosting and flare caused by incoming light, whether it enters at an angle or directly. This lets you shoot directly into bright light sources or capture night landscapes with complete clarity.

Fast Multi-Focus Autofocus System

It features a Multi-Focus system in which two groups of elements move in precise synchronization via dual mechanisms. This ensures instantaneous, silent, and accurate autofocus, even at the very shallow focal plane of f/1.8, while maintaining consistent image quality from the minimum focusing distance to infinity.

Enhanced Peripheral Brightness

The Z mount design allows for large optical elements at the rear, ensuring a natural progression of light toward the sensor. The lens achieves excellent edge-to-edge brightness, providing even illumination across the entire frame without visible light falloff (vignetting) at the edges.

Professional Construction & Ergonomics

The lens barrel is made entirely of durable, lightweight metal and features a dust- and water-resistant design. It has a programmable linear focus ring, a customizable control ring, and Fn buttons, providing maximum flexibility and ergonomics while shooting.

I confirm the excellent sharpness throughout the image even at f 1.8. The out-of-focus image (bokeh) is extremely smooth without nervousness. Out-of-focus point lights remain circular. If you like portraits with the model standing out impressively clear in front of a blurry background, this lens will thrill you. The depth of field at f 1.8 is such that you don't have to worry at all about the background. The plena can make disappear any detail that might distract the viewer's attention! At 47 Mpixels resolution, a portrait with shoulders shows skin pores, eyelashes and eyebrows hairs, and every small or large wrinkle so much, that it may need some sharpness reduction processing! The geometry of the faces looks better than that given by 85 mm lenses. The focus is not instantaneous but almost always precise. With the Z7 II, the eye recognition capability is fully utilized (and selection of the one that interests us) in humans and animals, tracking them when they move or even when they are momentarily not visible, and maintaining focus on them constantly and accurately! Despite the weight (almost 1 Kg) and the price, I believe it is worth both the effort of carrying and the expense.
