Sol Cresta, rise like the phoenix and reclaim the sun. The series to which the game belongs continues the spirit and fun of classic games using modern technology, and the first project in this endeavor is Sol Cresta. Humanity faced a crushing defeat by Mandler during his invasion of the solar system. Losing the moon and being repelled from Earth, they were forced to retreat to Laomedeia, the 12th moon of Neptune. With their last hope, they formed the Sol Cresta Recovery Team and entrusted the fate of the solar system to Yamato, a state-of-the-art cruiser. Sol Cresta takes the linking and formation strategies from the classic shooters Moon Cresta and Terra Cresta and elevates them with the "freeform docking" system. The flagship Yamato, consisting of the ships Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, and Susano, can use various attacks depending on how the three ships are aligned. Linking, dividing, and recombining the ships as needed is key to defeating Mandler's forces.
- Freeform docking: The Yamato ship consists of 3 ships
- Link and split to change your attack properties and use different formations to gain an incredible arsenal
- Sol Cresta's music is provided by the legendary chiptune composer Yuzo Koshiro
- The game pays homage to the sound and visuals of the previous Cresta series, bringing us back the arcade fever, but taking it beyond mere nostalgia
- There is even a time-limited, high-score Caravan mode and online leaderboards
