General Information about Tracheostomy

The tracheostomy tube is inserted after opening the trachea (tracheostomy) for the purpose of ventilating the patient, bypassing the upper respiratory tract. The reasons that may require it vary. Tracheostomy can be performed urgently in any setting or planned in surgery, which is more common. Tracheostomy can be temporary or permanent, depending on the patient's condition.

Indications for Tracheostomy

• Obstruction of the upper respiratory tract
• Severe laryngeal injury
• Radical surgery of the thyroid or pharynx
• Patients needing prolonged respiratory support
