Description

We are 31 years after the signing of the Maastricht Treaty. The developments of recent years, especially after the outbreak of the economic crisis and the war in Ukraine, have shown that the fanfares with which the treaty was signed do not correspond to reality.

The EU is plagued by poverty, social injustice, the shrinking of social and democratic rights, the rise of racism and the far-right, internal contradictions, and the differing interests of powerful states, as well as the ever-increasing gap between strong and less developed states.

Especially for Greece and the Greek people, the experience of participation in the EU has proven painful. Under these conditions, the question is raised more emphatically: "Is there an alternative path? Can Greece exist outside the EU?"

This volume begins the study of this critical question. It opens the discussion on the following themes:

  • What are the economic and political prerequisites for Greece's path outside the EU?
  • What are the prospects for labor and social rights, and the elimination of the exploitation of the workforce?
  • What are the prospects for the industrial and technological development of the country?
  • What are the prospects for the development of the agricultural economy?
  • How can the productive resources and potential be better utilized?
  • What is the future of small and medium-sized enterprises outside the EU?
  • What can be done regarding the country's international trade? Are there alternative experiences and solutions?
  • How can international agreements be exploited by Greece and the Greek people?
