Suture removal is generally not painful and depends on the type of surgery, the body’s healing ability, the location of the incision, and the method of stitching.
In surgeries where metal sutures (clips) are used, they are removed with a special extractor between the 15th-20th day. Sutures made from other materials (nylon) are removed 10-15 days after surgery. Absorbable sutures are used in intradermal sutures, which do not need to be removed.
What you should do:
- Keep the wound clean and dry.
- Take simple painkillers.
- Elevate the injury site.
- Visit your doctor or nurse for suture removal, as per instructions.
- Let the wound rest for a few days after suture removal.
- Then massage the area with creams.
What not to do:
- Do not use antiseptic solutions or creams to clean the blood crust.
- Do not remove the scar tissue.
- Do not tamper with the sutures.
