White Horses is the title of this masterpiece drama first published by Ibsen. In later editions, the title Rosmersholm was used.
The tower of Rosmer, "Rosmersholm," carries the darkness and burden of a conservative family that controls everything. A pastor, the last descendant of the Rosmers who has fallen away from the Church, and his lost wife. A demonic woman who stays with him takes care of him and inspires him to think and live freely.
The old clashes with the new. A love is born, a passion remains unfulfilled, and a death is unresolved. The scene unfolds in Rosmersholm, an old noble estate, on the outskirts of a small town in the fjords of western Norway.
