Description

Anubias barteri is perhaps the most "indomitable" and popular plant in the world of aquariums. If you are looking for something that survives even in the hands of a beginner (or a very "lively" goldfish), Anubias is the ideal choice.

Features:

Anubias barteri is characterized by its hard, leathery, deep green heart-shaped leaves. It is a slow-growing plant, which means you will not need frequent pruning, but it requires careful placement to prevent algae from growing on its leaves.

Key Specifications:

Height: 15-35 centimeters (depending on conditions).

Growth Rate: Slow.

Lighting: Low to Moderate.

Temperature: 22°C – 28°C.

pH: 6.0 – 7.5.

Planting & Placement Instructions:

The most important thing to remember about Anubias is the rhizome (the thick horizontal stem from which the roots and leaves grow).

  • Do not bury it in the substrate: If you bury the rhizome in sand or gravel, the plant will rot and die.
  • Attachment to decorations: The best way is to tie it with fishing line or cotton thread onto wood (driftwood) or stones. Over time, the roots will "embrace" the surface by themselves.
  • Position in the aquarium: Due to its size, it is usually placed in the midground or the background of the aquarium.

Why choose it?

  • Durability: It withstands low light conditions and low CO2 supply.
  • Anti-eating: Its leaves are so tough that most herbivorous fish (such as cichlids or goldfish) cannot eat them.
  • Natural shelter: Provides excellent hiding places for small fish and shrimp.

Tip:

Because it grows slowly, it is prone to the appearance of spot algae on its leaves if the lighting is too strong. Place it in shaded areas from other taller plants.
