Lens hoods protect your lenses from impacts as well as the creation of flare from light sources that can ruin your image.

The hood is designed for use with built-in or interchangeable SLR zoom lenses that have specific filter threads. It is optimized to provide coverage for lenses that have wide-angle or telephoto zoom capabilities. Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted distracting light from entering the lens, extending and shading the lens's front. Additionally, by extending the front of the lens, it also provides extra protection from accidental impacts.
