Players control ancient Chinese clans defending the region against attacks by the Mongol Horde while building the Great Wall. The Horde acts as an AI opponent, so players may sometimes need to work together to defeat it.
Each clan has a different leader, who determines its production and starting resources, as well as its starting workers and soldiers. As the game progresses, players hire advisors with unique abilities, creating different gameplay engines. Each round, players simultaneously choose actions using hidden cards and determine the order in which they are carried out.
