Álvaro de Campos is one of the most influential heteronyms created by the great modernist writer of Portugal, Fernando Pessoa. According to Pessoa, Campos was born in Tavira (Algarve) in 1890 and studied engineering in Glasgow, although he never managed to complete his degree. In his time, Campos was famous - and defamed - for his prolific poetry, imbued with free verse inspired by Walt Whitman, for the recognition of technology, and his polemical views that appeared in manifestos, interviews, and essays. This edition, which includes the complete works of Campos with translations by Margaret Jull Costa and Patricio Ferrari, is based on the Portuguese edition by Tinta-da-china and features an illuminating introduction about Campos by the Portuguese editors, Jerónimo Pizarro and Antonio Cardiello, as well as facsimiles of the original manuscripts and a generous selection of pre-Campos texts.
