The Carcassonne board game is a tile-placement strategy game in which players build cities, monasteries and roads while shaping fields. After placing a tile, each player can place one of their followers in one of its areas, where it takes on the role of a knight, robber, farmer or monk. Players score points by completing areas, and the player with the most points wins.

Choosing where to place followers is an important strategic decision, as they return to the supply only when the area they occupy is completed. The game includes the mini-expansion “Abbot”, featuring gardens and abbots.
