One of the most award-winning poets of Laconia, alongside his friend William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge was a founder of Romanticism in England. His work - which remains popular to this day - includes classic pieces like "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" and "Kubla Khan," as well as the beautiful early poem "Frost at Midnight": 'Or if the secret ministry of frost shall hang them up in silent icicles, quietly shining to the quiet moon.' Despite the wonderful beauty of his work, he suffered from periods of depression and is now speculated to have possibly had bipolar disorder. For his mental and physical ailments, he was treated with laudanum, which led to a lifelong dependency on opium. Coleridge's influence was extensive - he was a significant influence on Ralph Waldo Emerson - indeed, he coined the phrase 'suspension of disbelief.' This collection is a fascinating look into his life, as well as his work.
