KARLA: Do you know who I am?
JUSTIN: You are Carla Le Marsan from Montreal.
KARLA: Actually, my name is not Le Marsan.
JUSTIN: Yet it is. At least in the eyes of the law.
KARLA: So you know everything about me?
JUSTIN: We have been handling Mr. Robert Le Marsan’s affairs for several years.
KARLA: Well then, let’s get to the point. My name may be Le Marsan in the eyes of the law after the adoption – or naming or habeas corpus or whatever you lawyers call it. But I was born… (Pauses.) …Caroline Creil. My mother was also named Caroline. My father was Amias Creil. Sixteen years ago, my mother was tried because she poisoned my father. And they found her guilty. (Takes a deep breath.) Am I right?
JUSTIN: Yes, that is how the facts stand.
KARLA: I found out only six months ago.
JUSTIN: When you became an adult?
KARLA: Yes. I don’t think they wanted me to know. Uncle Robert and Aunt Bess, I mean. All these years they told me my parents died in an accident when I was five. But my mother had left a letter – to be given to me when I turned twenty-one, so they couldn’t keep the truth from me.
When the unjustly convicted Caroline Crail dies in prison for the murder of her husband, her daughter hires Hercule Poirot to solve the crime in order to restore her mother's memory. But how can the true perpetrator of a murder that took place sixteen years ago be revealed?
The work, originally titled Go Back for Murder, is a stage adaptation of Agatha Christie's novel Five Little Pigs, created by the author herself and first presented at the Duchess Theatre in London in 1960.
An intriguing mystery story with a cunning plot and an unexpected ending.
