Description

The first edition of this compliance handbook with the European General Data Protection Regulation (2016/679) and the Law Enforcement Directive (2016/680) received an enthusiastic reception from a four-digit number of readers.

With the aim of continuing to assist DPOs, organizations, and businesses in their challenging tasks, using practical examples and 50 templates, this updated work "THE GDPR HANDBOOK" examines the practical implementation challenges in both the public and private sectors, of the amended Law 4624/2019 by the Privacy Authorities and the courts.

Among other topics, it covers issues regarding the protection of the rights of subjects, the protection of minors, employees, health data processing, biometric customer identification, the use of video surveillance systems, and artificial intelligence.

The obligations to respect the privacy of witnesses, suspects, and defendants by law enforcement authorities during criminal proceedings, the new framework on the lifting of confidentiality (Law 5002/2022), the processing of classified national security data, the use of spyware, and the new regime for international transfers of personal data, following the Schrems II ruling of the Court of Justice, are also analyzed.

In addition to fines and penalties, the author critically approaches the latest regulations on emerging technologies (Law 4961/2022), European initiatives for digital markets and services, cryptocurrencies, cybersecurity, the Internet of Things, digital resilience, standards and certification, as well as the emerging Metaverse.
