Since the first edition of this book until today, there have been many changes in the field of children's clothing design. The main ones relate to fashion and the development of new fabrics.
Although the classic cut based on 'the body' remains valid, the great popularity of comfortable lines and knitted fabrics justifies the widespread use of simple, one-piece lines in a large percentage of clothing.
For this reason, this book is organized into two parts, in order to clarify these two types of cutting. Fashion and social conditions have significantly influenced the sizes concerning the sale of clothing and their collections. This was also the reason why we decided to change the size groups in this book.
Certainly, the organization of collections and the cutting of patterns must always be done in relation to the clothing lines, but it should be made clear that this does not reflect the natural development and changes that occur in the body. This is evidenced by the new size charts and size groups that we find in them.
Despite the observed trend towards separating clothes for boys and girls, some manufacturers still produce unisex designs. For this reason, we have maintained the Unisex Size Chart with a smaller range of sizes. If at any point you need a chart for smaller sizes for boys or girls, you can use the measurements from the alternative sizes in the same chart.
The height ranges of the Unisex Chart provide a guide for marking the size.
