Description

The first edition of the book "Psychopathology" was published in 1974, as a result of discussions between Gerald Davison and John Neale based on their experiences in teaching the course on Psychopathology. Ann Kring joined this team in 2001 and, in turn, invited Sheri Johnson in 2004 to participate in writing the new edition.

Over the years, the book has undergone changes that have contributed to its improvement. One change is its title, as the term psychopathology perpetuates the stigma that people with mental disorders are "not normal" in many ways. A second change is the emphasis that individuals with mental disorders are first and foremost people.

From its inception, this book was designed to maintain a balance between research and clinical application on one hand and the use of scientific examples as an organizational principle on the other. In the 14th edition of the book, emphasis still remains on a synthetic approach. This is achieved by the particular interest shown in extensively covering recent research, which is a characteristic feature of the work.

A third change is the additional integration of many pedagogical elements, which have been designed based on feedback from students and professors. For example, in the "Focus and Exploration" section, cutting-edge research on selected topics is presented, while other sections emphasize the active construction of knowledge.

The authors, using accessible language, provide us with a complete picture of the topics related to psychopathology, as well as the issues that arise, taking into account the difficulties students may have in forming a comprehensive view.
