Scottie Pippen has gone down in history as the great "second fiddle" in the magical "orchestra" of the Chicago Bulls of the 1990s or, alternatively, as the "Robin" to Michael Jordan's "Batman." Just don't say it to his face, because he gets angry! And quite rightly so, because before being drafted in 1987 by the Bulls, the Chicago team had failed to get past the first round of the playoffs for three consecutive years with Jordan on the roster.
The path of the poor kid from Hamburg, Arkansas was not paved with rose petals. He experienced a difficult childhood as part of a loving yet fate-struck family. He never played in a top-tier college, as nobody gave him the opportunity, and thanks to a fortunate twist of fate, he found himself in summer camps before the NBA draft.
As a professional, he was never treated with the respect he deserved by the Bulls' management, with whom his relationships were perpetually strained. Recently, he endured yet another tragedy, with the death of his eldest son.
