The Ark Nova: Marine Worlds expansion for the Ark Nova board game adds marine animals, special enclosures and new action cards. Special enclosures must be built next to water, while around half of the marine animals are reef dwellers: when one is added to the zoo, the abilities of all its reef dwellers are activated.
Marine cards feature a wave symbol. When one is revealed in the card display, the first card in the row is discarded and the row is refreshed. A fourth university is added to the Association board, allowing players to choose one of six special universities, each with a research symbol and an animal symbol. When chosen, cards are revealed from the top of the deck until the first one with an animal symbol matching the university is found.
There are four alternative versions of each of the five action cards. At the start of the game, players choose cards and replace two of their basic action cards, adding asymmetry to the game. The expansion also includes new bonus tiles, final-scoring cards, alternative wooden markers for the three tracks, and animal tokens to mark the conservation projects being supported.
