Description

Humans have not dominated the Earth because we have stronger muscles than other creatures. We have dominated because we possess stronger intelligence than other creatures. This has allowed us to create every work: from buildings, weapons, and computers to sciences, religions, comedies, or the compositions of Mozart.

Natural evolution took millennia to bring our intellect to this level. However, artificial intelligence may soon reach or even surpass human intelligence in the coming decades and is already rapidly affecting our daily lives. Consider how much one form of artificial intelligence, Google, has changed the world. In the 21st century, we are thus facing, for the first time, the massive impact of intelligent machines and the possibility that forms of them may emerge in the future that surpass humans in what has brought us from our primitive caves to the moon: our intelligence.

The most pressing philosophical question that modern thought faces is: "Can humans control something more intelligent than themselves?"

The book delves into the ontology and ethics of the new technology. It vividly narrates, in a lively and clear language for a broad and interdisciplinary audience, the major social challenges, the benefits and threats that technology brings, along with its primary philosophical interpretations.

The new Technology is incubating a novel universe. The human as we know him, his habits, his natural and digital environment, his physically– may seem primitive in a few generations from now. Good or bad, it will show itself in the distant future. In any case, we are living some of the most interesting, and therefore critical, moments in human history.

I would put "Philosophy of Technology" as the title... Personally, I found it confusing and exhausting.... I was expecting something clearer regarding what "Artificial Intelligence" is, what it means, what it offers us, and what dangers its development entails... The writing, with definitions and theories from experts, makes it somewhat complicated to understand.
