Introduction by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby to the fertile pages of the Fantastic Four, the Silver Surfer quickly established his position as one of Marvel's most groundbreaking characters. Imprisoned by Galactus to roam the universe in search of the next semi-deity's planet-meal, the Surfer was a tragic figure who simultaneously impressed with his appearance. As he became a fan-favorite character and a regular supporter of the Fantastic Four series, Lee eagerly awaited the right moment to tell his own stories about the Surfer. In the spring of 1968, everything came together in harmony and Lee introduced the Surfer with Marvel's first continuous double-sized book. He also collaborated with artist John Buscema, who had recently contributed his outstanding designs to the Avengers. Together they wrote a series of legendary stories that defined the character forever. The hallmark stories of the 18-issue 1968 Silver Surfer series are included in this cosmic-sized XXL volume of the Marvel Comics Library series, which has been awarded the Eisner Award. The most pristine and acclaimed comics have been rediscovered and photographed in close collaboration with Marvel and the Certified Guaranty Company. Each page has been photographed as it was printed more than half a century ago and digitally reconstructed using modern retouching techniques. A specially developed paper has been created exclusively for this series, simulating the feel of the original comics. Texts by the writer and critic Douglas Wolk and Marvel artist and John Buscema's brother, Sal Buscema, accompany the original artworks, photographs, and rare material. © 2023 MARVEL
