The essay collection "Milkyways" by artist Camille Henrot explores the doubts of motherhood and the process of creation both in art and life. Each chapter offers a world of references in literature, drawing, art history, psychoanalysis, and more, from ancient myths of motherhood to modern maternity wards, including personalities such as Marcel Proust, Maggie Nelson, and Hélène Cixous.
Together with images of her artistic work in painting, drawing, and sculpture, Henrot's perspectives in writing oscillate freely between the personal and the social, the obvious and the more complex, the bodily and the completely mundane.
"Milkyways" was originally created for the magazine Republik at the invitation of Antje Stahl and is co-written with Jacob Bromberg, Antje Stahl, and Léa Trudel.
