Pau d' Arco comes from the bark of the Tabebuia impetiginosa tree, which thrives in the Amazon forests of South Brazil. Also known as Ipe Roxo, Lapacho, or Taheebo, it has a rich content of quinones such as naphthoquinones and anthraquinones.

It is known for its contribution to a healthy immune response, providing protection against bacteria, fungi, and microbes. It has detoxifying, antibiotic, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Traditionally, it is used to enhance the immune system, particularly in cases such as:

  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Myalgic encephalomyelitis (CFS or ME)
  • Fibromyalgia (FMS)
  • Overgrowth of Candida albicans
  • Viruses such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
  • Use of antibiotics and steroids

Preparation of the infusion:

  • Add 2 teaspoons of Pau d' Arco to 4 cups of boiling water.
  • Let the bark simmer for 20 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and allow to cool for 1 hour.
  • Strain the water.
  • Drink in small portions or use for external application.

Precautions:

  • Consuming high doses may lead to nausea and diarrhea.
