Since the establishment of the modern Greek state, our country has been under the constant threat of an insatiable and imperialistic adversary. However, in dealing with the revisionist Turkey, modern political history offers valuable lessons to Greek diplomacy.
The policy of appeasement adopted by England and France just before the outbreak of World War II proved disastrous for all humanity. Instead of ensuring peace, the "Allies" successively appeased three authoritarian leaders: Mustafa Kemal, Benito Mussolini, and Adolf Hitler, inevitably leading events towards total war.
The appeasements examined in this book led to the abandonment of Alexandretta, Ethiopia, and Czechoslovakia to the militaristic regimes of the Axis powers. At the same time, they facilitated the strengthening and ultimate dominance of the Nazis in Germany, the Fascists in Italy, and the Genocidaires in Turkey.
These appeasements did not only cause World War II but also its aftermath, which we are experiencing today in Europe, the Eastern Mediterranean, and the Middle East.
