Description

Early morning of November 25, 1973. Lieutenant Colonel Georgios Douzepis, with forces from the 521st Infantry Battalion and 4 tanks, has surrounded the presidential residence in Lagonisi. He hands Georgios Papadopoulos a handwritten note... Papadopoulos reads it: “Those who carried out the act, did they consider whether they are doing good or harm to their Country?” he asks.

He calls the Lieutenant Colonel inside... He turns on the television and sees Phaedon Gizikis being sworn in as President. He immediately understands: “MIMIS (IOANNIDIS) did it...” Noon, July 23, 1974. The third day after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. Kyrenia has already been captured. Greece has not reacted. President Gizikis, Chief of the Armed Forces Bonanos, and the Branch Chiefs, Galatsanos, Arapakis, and Papanikolaou, call Dimitrios Ioannidis to the presidential office. They blame him for what has happened. Then they inform him that they will call the old politicians.

He responds passively: “I do not agree with the solution you are giving, but I will not react...” The two dates are only 8 months apart. These are the months during which the regime of Dimitrios Ioannidis lasted. 8 decisive months, the consequences of which Greece and Cyprus still endure to this day. So, who was the infamous “Invisible Dictator”? Unbalanced or patriot? Incompetent or traitor? Idealist or fool? Pure and honest or schemer and plotter? Or all of these together? One thing is certain: He was the Fateful Man for both Greece and Cyprus... In this work, for the first time, we solve the “riddle” called Dimitrios Ioannidis. At the same time, we shed light on all the dark and hidden aspects of our modern History...
