The striking changes of planetary dimensions occurring around the world – geopolitical, climatic, migratory, technological, or digital – compel us to revisit the state institutions we inherited, for the past five centuries, from political enlightenment.
To reflect and reinterpret the fundamental concepts of Political Science: the state, liberalism and authoritarianism, sovereignty (state and popular), the separation of powers, the rule of law and the social, democracy and the parliamentary system.
To question, mainly, the future of the state and democracy, whether the contemporary risks and crises of our political institutions are symptoms of their decline and degeneration, or perhaps the tremors of a painful transformation due to a necessary and painful adaptation to a new era, the characteristics of which we still do not know.
The pages of this essay are primarily addressed to students of law, political science, and social sciences. With the hope that they will capture the interest of researchers as well as the broader knowledgeable public, anyone interested in learning how a State is organized and functions in the age of globalization and a still forming, nebulous, and highly tense global governance.
