Close-up lenses work like a magnifying glass placed in front of your camera lens. They are a simple and economical way for close-up photography. They are available in different "strengths" (diopters). A +1 close-up lens will allow you to focus closer than you currently do. A +2 close-up lens will allow you to focus closer than the +1. A +4 lens will allow you to focus even closer than the +2, and so on. These lenses can be used individually or in any combination to achieve super close focusing. The maximum magnification that can be achieved with these attachments depends on the focal length of your lens as well as the actual close-focusing ability of that particular lens.

They are multicoated to minimize reflections on the filter surfaces, thus reducing glare and ghosting.

NOTE: A +1 combined with a +2 will equal +3, while a +2 combined with a +4 will equal +6, and so on.
