The emergence of Islamic terrorism, which reached a violent peak in recent years, notably following September 11th and the destruction of the Twin Towers, reignited the conflict between East and West, the Islamic and Christian worlds.
Thus, the oversimplified distinction between the world as good and evil, sacred and profane, pure and impure has reemerged; a distinction that, in reality, does not "interpret" and, most importantly, does not address the complex reality of the multicultural global community we live in.
This volume examines the encounter of Christianity with Islam, the dialogue between the two religions, as well as their comparative perspectives.
At the same time, the influences of Judaism, as well as of some branches of Christianity whose traces fade after the first millennium, on Muhammad and the Qur'an are explored.
The main focus of the study is the comparison between the Holy Scriptures and the Qur'an, as well as among other fundamental sources of the two religious traditions, on a variety of faith and moral topics.
Thus, the reader is introduced, in a simple yet scholarly manner, to the origin and diversity of early Christianity, as well as to the development of Islam, which spread rapidly across the Mediterranean basin.
This study highlights the importance of Christianity for the religion of Islam, in understanding both its origin and its nature.
This mutual influence and dialectical relationship between the two religions seek to be illuminated by this study, with the prerequisite of fruitful dialogue and mutual understanding between two worlds that, in the post-COVID era, must face new challenges.
