The Greek bibliography on Kurdish Studies has not developed to such an extent as to be a subject of ongoing discussion and continuous reflection within the Greek academic community.
This volume represents the first attempt to create the conditions that allow for the introduction of Kurdish history and Kurdish Studies into academic discourse and public debate, offering motivation and guidance to researchers and students at Greek universities to reflect upon and investigate not only the questions raised within this volume but also broader issues.
The texts included in the volume are carefully selected essays by renowned scholars in Kurdish Studies from the international academic community, focusing on specific aspects of the Kurdish Question, as well as issues related to Kurdish identity, Turkish politics towards the Kurds, and the political organizations of Kurdistan, over a broad historical period extending from the late Ottoman Empire to the early decades of the 21st century.
With this volume, the three editors, in collaboration with the University of Patras Press, aim to elevate Kurdish Studies in Greece and establish them as a scientific field that is constantly at the forefront of research – and not only. Their goal is for the discussion about the Kurds to move beyond the narrow confines of the Kurdish Question, which it has been limited to in Greece, and to expand into the broader historical, political, and social context, not only of Turkey but the entire Middle East.
