Description

In the late 1950s, with the theological studies and fervent zeal of the current Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës, and all of Albania, Mr. Anastasios, the missionary consciousness in the Orthodox world was awakened. His pioneering article "The Forgotten Commandment" and his activity in the pan-Orthodox initiative for youth, "The Union," sparked a revival of the Orthodox duty to bear witness in Christ to those nearby (re-evangelization) and to those far away (evangelization of the nations).

In this effort, the magazines "Porefthetes" and "Panta ta Ethni" served as a channel for conveying the theological documentation of the mission to multiple recipients. At the same time, they set the criteria for dialogue with the new recipients of the Orthodox tradition in relation to their cultural surroundings, religious background, and various peculiarities. Their editors worked to inform, teach, and guide readers regarding the establishment of new Orthodox communities in various parts of the world and their diverse needs.

In this way, the two magazines took care to mobilize people to contribute in various ways and support the further continuation of the missionary work.

This book approaches the two missionary magazines in terms of the broader communicative process, considering all the factors that contribute to the transmission and reception of the Gospel message in various cultural and religious contexts. At the same time, it highlights the elements of dialogue that cultivate the incarnation of the Word of God in every culture. The emergence and dissemination of the two magazines are examined within their social and historical context to make their action more understandable.
