How to connect the drive to PS5 consoles

Place your console on a soft cloth laid out on a flat surface before connecting the drive unit.

Step 1

Go to the control center and select Power > Turn Off PS5. The screen turns off, the power indicator blinks white, and then turns off.

Step 2

Remove the power cord and cables, and then wait for the PS5 console to cool down. The main unit of your console is hot immediately after use.

Step 3

Place the console with the bottom side up and the front side facing you, and then remove the horizontal base feet (nearby).

Step 4

Gently lift the cover of the circle from the console to disconnect its clips and remove it.

Step 5

Align the drive unit clips with the 2 holes (marked with an inverted triangle) and then press them firmly until you hear a "click".

Step 6

Place the circular cover and the horizontal base feet (long) included with your drive unit. Align the cover clips with the corresponding holes on the console and push it until you hear a "click".

Step 7

Connect the AC power cable and the cables, then turn on the power. 

  • Keep the feet and cover removed in steps 3 and 4 in a safe place. They are needed to use the PS5 console without the drive unit attached.
  • An Internet connection is required to pair the drive unit and the PS5 console during installation.

* The Disc Drive is intended only for the PlayStation 5 Slim Digital and PlayStation 5 Slim editions.
