The display on the handle shows the measurement, while the buttons let you change the unit and reset the reading to zero, so you can add ingredients without affecting the previous measurement.
It is made of plastic and runs on a 3 V coin-cell battery, which is not included. To clean it, wash the spoon with a sponge and liquid soap, taking care not to wet the handle.
