Melina is smuggled away by Kimonas to Thessaloniki to escape the wrath of the Bulgarian invaders. She lives and fights through the stony years of occupation in Thessaloniki with her Jewish friend Rachel Makri by her side. An unexpected love blossoms under the watchful gaze of the occupier, a child is born, and a journey with no return to Auschwitz begins.
