In the desert of Saint Basil in Mount Athos, Saint Nicodemus wrote the "Useful Teachings of Christians". It is a highly significant work, in which, according to the late Elder Theoklitos Dionysiatis, "the wisdom, holiness, and extensive knowledge of the man are reflected".

Indeed, all his very beautiful speeches, thirteen in number, are worthy of admiration. Through these, he attempts to restore Orthodox Christians to the thought of the Church Fathers and to lead them to the salvation of their souls, as the wave of the French Enlightenment had also influenced Orthodox Greece. The main source is the inexhaustible wealth of Saint John Chrysostom, without neglecting references to other Church Fathers, such as Saint Basil the Great, Saint Gregory the Theologian, and others.
