They undoubtedly constitute a powerful tool that aids in managing change, preparing the child for new events and experiences, as well as teaching a new skill or a positive behavior.

Let's not forget that the goal of a social story is not behavioral change but understanding. We provide the information to the child (everything that most of us consider obvious), they understand it, and then they modify their behavior.
