The Six-Day War in 1967 was a lightning campaign by Israel that changed the face of the Middle East. Israel's armored brigades, despite being outnumbered by the Arab forces, managed to dominate tactically and technologically, thanks to superb gunnery and decentralized leadership on the battlefield. The battles unfolded on three different fronts: the Sinai front, the Jordanian front, and the Golan Heights, each presenting its own tactical and terrain challenges, from long-range battles between concentrated Egyptian and Israeli tanks in the hot flat expanses of the Sinai desert, to relatively close engagements on steep and narrow paths in the Golan Heights. The Six-Day War also showcased the religious clash of the Cold War's conflicting tactical approaches and the direct confrontation of Western and Soviet main battle tanks. On the Israeli side, the army fielded the British Centurion, the American M48 Patton, the M51 Super Sherman, and the French AMX-13, focusing primarily on the Centurion and Patton. The Arab armored force was represented by the T-34/85, T-54/55, PT-76, and JS-3. Each vehicle offered its own advantages and disadvantages, although ultimately the long-range tank kills by the Centurion often carried the day. Drawing from gripping personal accounts of both unit commanders and individual crews, this Duel title explains the tactical and mechanical dynamics of one of the greatest post-war armored engagements.
