The studies included in this volume were first presented as papers at a conference titled "Orthodox Church and National Awakening" on February 25, 2021. The conference, which was jointly organized by the Department of Theology of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the research group of the project "The Struggle Between Tradition and Modernity and the Constitution under the 'state' of the Revolution of 1821" (of ELIIDEK), was part of the honorary events of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for the 200th anniversary of the National Rebirth.
"This Conference does not seem to have an anniversary and celebratory character, which usually relies on stereotypical interpretations and established views and shapes or serves such an idealized depiction of the past that ultimately undermines the very historicity of the events. ...
