Biography of the most significant figure for the Magnesia prefecture and all of Thessaly in the fields of tourism and local culture (1950-1990). Born in Tsagarada and raised in Volos, he began his career at the Agricultural Bank, and in 1948 transitioned to journalism and tourism. He was the first president of Tsagaradiotes in Athens during the 1950s, uniting all wealthy Egyptian expatriates in support of Pelion and especially Tsagarada. He was the behind-the-scenes person responsible for the creation and completion of the Tsagarada Guesthouse (XENIA) and the road to Mylopotamos, although he preferred the cable car! He was instrumental in reviving the Volos Carnival in 1960, the first wine festival in Achialo, and the Alykes beach. He served every way he could to ensure Pelion received the tourism it deserved! Similarly, he served the culture of Volos and Pelion through his activities in the Volos Touring Club, the precursor to the General State Archives, the Greek Humanitarian Society, the Artistic and Intellectual Club of Volos, and many others. From 1963 to 1981, he was director of the Hellenic Tourism Organization (EOT) Thessaly and a journalist for local and nationwide newspapers on issues of tourism and culture. Over four decades (1950-1980), he published hundreds of articles on tourism, music, dance, theater, visual arts, books, social issues, mythology, history, folklore, philosophy, religion, and little about… politics! He collaborated with Volos radio for over 20 years. He was a self-taught painter and author of books on Greek mythology and philosophy.
The biography of the "Centaur of Pelion," St. Basardanis, is based on his personal archives, the archive of the Magnesia Tourism Organization (TOM), the Greek Tourism Organization of Magnesia - Volos (EOT), as well as thousands of publications on tourism and culture in Greece, Europe, and America.
