Erwin Rommel is undoubtedly the most famous German general of World War II. Beloved by his soldiers and praised by his opponents, the so-called "Fearless Hermit" gained legendary fame for his daring actions and brave strategies during the North African campaign. In this book, rich with over 400 images, the author examines the deprivations and challenges Rommel faced in leading his allied force. Attempting to reach the Nile Delta, we find Rommel's Axis soldiers poorly prepared for such a daring operation. Impressed by his men on the front, a demanding and impatient leader is revealed, accused by subordinate officers and distrusted by his superiors in Berlin. He is not a diplomat, but his official interactions with Italian and younger German officers reveal aspects of his personality. Additionally, his ability to exploit the weaknesses of enemies is observed, and his exceptional instinct for mobile warfare is studied. His lack of attention to decisive supply parameters and his army's reliance on captured equipment are studied. We learn how this brave and ambitious commander was celebrated by German propaganda when the fortunes of the Wehrmacht in the East were declining. In contrast, the reason why Winston Churchill honored him as a bold and capable adversary is analyzed. Finally, the dynamic and often dangerous commander is depicted as he roams the vast plains of the Western Desert. This is the story of Rommel in North Africa.
